Tonight in HD: October 27

Fringe (TV2, 10.30)

Friends (TV2, 6.30, R) While Chandler is stuck in Tulsa for Christmas, one of his co-workers comes onto him. Selma Blair guest stars. ✫✫✫

Shortland Street (TV2, 7.00) Gabrielle shuts down; Vinnie jumps through hoops for romance; Jill’s tricks land Callum in hot water. ✫✫✫

The X Factor USA (TV3, 7.30, 5.1) Following the Judge’s Houses stage, the finalists are revealed — and should, for the first X Factor to air in 5.1 audio, sound better than ever. ✫✫✫

Rove LA (TV3, 9.30) With Justin Timberlake, James Marsden and Eliza Dushku. ✫✫✫✫

Fringe (TV2, 10.30, F) Questions will be answered as Peter confronts his destiny and a beloved team member meets an untimely demise in what Entertainment Weekly dubbed one of the “12 best cliffhangers of ’11” while the AV Club graded the season finale a B+:  “It may be that Fringe has bitten off more than it can chew here, and the storytelling is about to get hopelessly convoluted, as it often does once time-travel enters the picture. But for now, I’m going to enjoy living with and thinking over what I’ve seen so far. And I’m going to trust that no matter how crazy Fringe’s fourth season gets, the writers are going to keep bringing everything back to less mind-bending questions.” ✫✫✫✫✫

Rapid Response (TV One, 11.35, R) ✫✫

Underbelly: The Mr Asia Story (TV3, 11.45, R) With Terry gone temporarily, Allison takes the reins in Australia, organising new couriers to ensure business stays booming. ✫✫✫✫

Criminal Minds (TV One, 12.05, R) ✫✫

Vampire Diaires (TV2, 2.40, R) ✫✫✫

Tonight’s X Factor is going to be in 5.1 surround. Should sound amazing.

  2. Absolutely! Thanks for the heads-up. TV3 confirms the rest of the series will be 5.1, too …

  3. 5.1 will not make those no-talents any better … lol. The final of Fringe was the first in 5.1? Didn’t make any difference as there was stuff-all surround activity. Add TVNZ’s Dolby Digital launch to their long list of Freeview stuff-ups.

  4. I was somewhat underwhelmed by the 5.1 in X Factor. Guess I was spoiled with the RWC on TV3.

  5. A little raitoalnity lifts the quality of the debate here. Thanks for contributing!
