Top 5 Debut for Celebrity Treasure Island

TVNZ Sales reports Celebrity Treasure Island was the fourth most-watched show of the week among viewers aged 18-54, a demographic that straddles the key audiences for TVNZ 1 and TVNZ 2.

It was beaten by only 1 News at Six, Seven Sharp and 1 Breaking News because of the extraordinary interest in lockdown developments and the spread of the delta variant.

Notable takeaways of CTI’s first week include:

  • Winning its time slot all three nights
  • The season premiere rating a 11.2 for HHS w Kids 0-14, reflecting its broad appeal to younger viewers and family audiences
  • Being streamed 106,000 times on TVNZ OnDemand
  • Having the second-highest reach and the fourth-highest streams of any series on TVNZ OnDemand.

CTI was one of 17 TVNZ series that dominated the week’s top 20 shows with viewers 25-54:

Since the start of lockdown, The Chase has reached 52% of New Zealanders aged 25-54, TVNZ Sales says. “Last week, we saw a 20% increase in average audience for AP25-25 compared to the eight weeks prior to lockdown.

“After 1 News at Six, viewers stick around to watch Hilary Barry and Jeremy Wells for a fresh perspective on today’s stories. Since the start of lockdown, Seven Sharp has reached 48% of people 25-54. Last week, Seven Sharp had a 45% uplift in average audience for AP25-54.”

Ouch, not even Three’s The Block made this top 20. This really highlights the need for them to continually invest in their News brands and the ever reliable David Lomas. They must be waiting with baited breath for the Government to fast track the TVNZ/RNZ merger so they can raid their content rights cabinet.

  2. Next year Warner Bros are joining Discovery and becoming Warner Bros. Discovery so I think big changes are on the way for Three ?

  3. Thanks Trevor. That will make things interesting in the NZ TV landscape

  4. As long as it gets the OK, of course but they do seem rather confident but yes, it’s going to be really interesting to see what happens. Three definitely needs something, that’s for sure ?
