TV1’s Crime Dramas Get the Chop

TV1’s stable of crime procedurals has been decimated by cancellations in the US.

Not returning to the networks in in 2015/16 are Stalker, The Following, Forever, The Mentalist and the upcoming Battle Creek while Unforgettable has been dumped by CBS but picked up by A&E (which airs Bates Motel).

However, Castle’s been renewed for an eighth season, a second season has been greenlit for the soon-to-screen American Crime and Criminal Minds not only is likely to continue but also has spun off another sister show, Beyond Borders.

TV2’s slate of dramas, including new hit The Mysteries of Laura and its superhero franchises, remains largely intact, save for Resurrection and Revenge, while TV3 has lost State of Affairs and Backstrom.

None of these will be a blow to the networks as three have long since been relegated to late night while Backstrom was yanked off-air after only two weeks (although a low-rating series TV3 did persevere with in primetime, The Night Shift, has been renewed) .

Here’s a list of the cancellations confirmed so far while The Hollywood Reporter has published this casualty list as well as an overview of what’s coming, staying and going.

Deadline Hollywood, meanwhile, sums up the shape of 2015/16 as “medical dramas, superheroes and movie remakes,” many of which NZ TV executives will preview this month at the LA Screenings.
