TV3 Dishes Up Fresh Breakfast News Recipe

As ScreenScribe.tv tipped on Friday, TV3 has confirmed it will resume breakfast news broadcasts.

After providing de rigeur ‘scoops’ to the Sunday papers, the network this morning issued a press release announcing that as of Monday, 3 News: Firstline will be a permanent fixture of the weekday schedule.

It will air 6am-8.30am and purportedly will be a “no-frills”, hard news broadcast, in contrast to TV One’s sunny-side-up Breakfast.

“There won’t be any coffee mugs on the anchors’ desk or stories about how to look after your pets,” Mediaworks TV chief executive Jason Paris said.

“We want this to be a show for serious news viewers who have limited time in the morning but want to be fully informed.”

“Firstline will concentrate on the important stories that happened overnight and what is likely to make news in the day ahead,” TV3’s news and current affairs chief Mark Jennings said.

“When major stories break the programme will have the resources and journalist fire power to provide major coverage.”

The network said it had planned to launch Firstline in April but was bringing it forward in the wake of its Christchurch earthquake coverage.
