TVNZ 1 to Screen Queen’s Funeral Live

TVNZ 1 will pre-empt Monday night’s schedule to screen wall-to-wall live coverage of the Queen’s state funeral.

Fair Go, The Check Up, My Life is Murder and 20/20 will be dropped for a 1 News Special about the lead-up to the funeral.

Coverage of the event will screen from 10.00 and continue overnight.

“It’s going to be a monumental occasion,” Esme Wren, editor at U.K. public broadcaster Channel 4 News, told Variety.

“The sheer number of members of the public who will be coming into London, and attending other events around the U.K., to pay their respects, plus the volume of foreign dignitaries who will be coming to the capital, means it will be a unique and historical event.”

Heightened worldwide interest in the Queen’s death is reflected in global viewership of Netflix’s The Crown increasing “exponentially” between Friday and Sunday, Media Play News reports.

In the U.K., viewership leapt more than 800% from the previous Friday-Sunday period while French viewership tripled and US viewership quadrupled.

“Globally overall, the show’s viewership was nearly four times higher this past weekend than it was the previous weekend.”

Meanwhile, ThreeNow has added the following Royal documentaries:

  • In Their Own Words: Queen Elizabeth II
  • Picturing Elizabeth: Her Life in Pictures
  • When The Queen Spoke to the Nation
