TVNZ 2 2021 Highlights
Here are the new 2021 shows TVNZ 2 unveiled yesterday (blurbs courtesy of TVNZ):
VEGAS
A drug deal gone wrong sets off a chain of events for three rival gangs and an innocent bystander, in the small tourist town of Wairoto.
Toni Poulan, local tavern owner and solo mother, is pulled into a world of crime when competing crews decide to use her bar for a million-dollar methamphetamine deal. In a twist of fate, a robbery is committed the same night, taking cash and the drugs.
Te Toki, the Assassins and the Triad all want the meth back – but who’s taken it?
Inside the corrugated iron fences reveals men who are much more than the patches on their back. Differing factions enter a three-way tug of war to take control of the town. These are family men, all hoping to change the path they’re on.
This is a story of the possibility, and against all odds, for hope and redemption.
PATRIOT BRAINS
It’s time to find out once and for all who’s the best – Kiwis or Aussies?
This fast-paced quiz show will pit two teams of comedians against each other, with our host the only thing keeping them apart.
Who has the best road movie? Who’s got the most confusing outdated law still in effect? And just which country has the better Prime Minister?
Each week, one team will prove they know the most about their own country. And the other will be named and shamed as the most uneducated patriots in this trans-Tasman battle.
From the makers of 7 Days, Patriot Brains will deliver comedy that is interesting, fast and hilarious!
CREAMERIE
Eight years after a plague killed all the men in the world, it turns out the new feminist society isn’t quite as utopic as it was hoped.
So, when three women accidentally run someone over on a dark night on the way back to their rural dairy farm, they are astounded to discover this person has a beard, and a disturbing growth between their legs.
On closer inspection, the woman is a man.
Starring Ally Xue, Perlina Lau and JJ Fong as the farmers, alongside Jay Ryan, Kimberley Crossman and a raft of yet to be announced Kiwi stars.
This harsh dystopian comedy drama will be available as a full season on TVNZ OnDemand, and weekly on TVNZ 2.
THE WALKERS
The Walkers is a raw, entertaining and unfiltered look into the lives of Stan Walker and his whānau.
Stan Walker shot to fame in 2009 when he won Australian Idol. More recently, the accomplished singer and songwriter has written an autobiography and publicly shared his family struggles and history.
This series will show Aotearoa what they really want to see; an access-all-areas view of Stan Walker navigating his way through 2020, with his whānau split across both sides of the Tasman.
Viewers will see Stan as a brother, son, musician, boyfriend and friend – nothing will be off the cards in this brand-new TVNZ 2 series coming in 2021!
TRAVEL GUIDES NZ
Explore one of the most amazing places in the world – your home, New Zealand!
Long considered the TripAdvisor of television, Travel Guides has finally landed in Aotearoa. Travel Guides NZ will follow different groups of Kiwi travellers on their domestic escapades around the land of the long white cloud.
Our travellers will become travel critics, rating and reviewing their holiday experiences in a way only Travel Guides can deliver. One person’s idea of paradise is another’s nightmare, and our opinionated travellers will be thrown out of their comfort zones as they deliver brutally honest and hilarious reviews of NZ’s unique tourist attractions.
Viewers have been hooked on Travel Guides Australia, and now they’ll get a taste of the popular reality travel show, set in their own backyard.
CELEBRITY TREASURE ISLAND
After a hugely successful reboot of the iconic classic, Celebrity Treasure Island returns in 2021! But this time around, a brand-new batch of celebrity castaways will battle it out on home soil, as the show swaps the pristine shores of Fiji for a rugged Kiwi coastline.
The celebrities will once again go head-to-head for the chance to win prize money for their charity.
The dramatic Team Face-Offs and Elimination Battles will test team rivalries and push the castaways to the max. There will be plenty of twists along the way, contestants will come and go and of course, strategy will play its part.
Who will follow in the footsteps of Sam Wallace and join the elite ranks of Celebrity Treasure Island winners?
One thing is for sure, there’ll be plenty of highs and lows, laughter and scheming, when the ultimate treasure hunt returns to our screens.
CARLOS’ RENO RESCUE
Do you know someone who spends their time helping others? Someone who is considered a hero in their community? Someone who deserves a mini-break and maybe a new kitchen, bedroom or lounge?
Well we’re asking you to nominate that person because we’re making a new TV show where community heroes get a room renovated by ex-All Black Carlos Spencer and his renovation team.
