TVNZ+ Adds Three August Premieres
TVNZ+ will see out the month in style with the premieres of three late additions to the platform, including one that will stream ahead of its UK premiere.
The Suspect (from Sunday) is a five-part thriller starring Poldark’s Adrian Turner that goes to air Monday on ITV.
He plays Joe O’Loughlin, a happily-married criminal psychologist who winds up the prime suspect in a murder case he’s profiling.
Small Axe‘s Shaun Parkes, Vigil‘s Anjli Mohindra and Adam James, Save Me‘s Camilla Beeput and Fleabag‘s Sian Clifford co-star.
“In this twisty mystery nothing is as it initially appears,” said The Telegraph.
There’s a screenwriting adage: in order to endear your character to a new audience, they should ideally save a cat within the first couple of pages. The Suspect one-ups that with an opening in which Joe must save a suicidal teenager from jumping off a building – a task complicated by his recent diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease. It’s a thrilling sequence, wonderfully performed and directed, and seals Joe’s hero status.
Said The Telegraph of season two of The Capture (from Monday): “The cyber thriller returns, three years after its first series, in bracing form … This is a sinewy and thoughtful thriller of rare calibre.”
I Just Want My Pants Back (from Sunday) is a 10-year-old MTV comedy/drama about a twentysomething New Yorker searching for his favourite pair of jeans after losing them to a one-night stand.
“There’s a lot to like in I Just Want My Pants Back, with very little to outright dislike about it,” said The AV Club.
“The wave of alt-culture references occasionally gets a little much, and the show sometimes makes the mistake of substituting pop culture references for genuine character development.”
