HD Heads-Up: March 7-13

➢➢ Crackhead (Three, 9.00 Thursday) is a new NZ On Air-funded Warner Bros. comedy about a party-girl addict forced into a “luxury” rehab “where withdrawals, family secrets, and the inpatients from hell push her to the edge”. Created by and starring Holly Shervey (Shortland Street, Head High), the eight-part series is set in a small, remote town and co-stars Sara Wiseman as her psychiatrist, along with Ana Scotney,Tania Nolan, Miriama Smith, Arlo Green, Mark Mitchison, Bronwyn Bradley, Erol Shand and Dominic Ona-Ariki. Shervey’s husband, actor Emmett Skilton, who played Axl Johnson in The Almighty Johnsons and Coach Oregon in Young Rock, directs (he also directed her in Auckward Love and Millennial Jenny)  …

➢➢ Neil & Martin’s Bon Voyage (Sky Open, 8.30 Thursday) reunites Men Behaving Badly stars Martin Clunes and Neil Morrissey in the south of France. “Here two blokes in their sixties, who now wonder if having a freedom pass entitles them to the term ‘lads’ road trip’, embark on an adventure in southern France, starting at Morrissey’s bolt hole in the Lot-et-Garonne region, canoeing sedately up the Dordogne, marvelling at the vineyards and drinking in the views. It’s lovely,” said The Times. The Telegraph was less effusive: “On balance, there was just enough of South-Western France and just enough evocation of a genuine friendship to ease you through what was otherwise a well-worn route.” For proof of their friendship, read this Guardian interview …

➢➢ If you thought Duke’s three-peat of Groundhog Day on February 2 was bizarre (but kinda’ brilliant), what do you make of TVNZ 2 recruiting three episodes of The Rookie from different seasons to screen within 24 hours? S8 continues 8.30 Monday, with episode five, but is preceded by S1E16 at 7.30 while 24 hours later fans can again view S5E22 (the season finale). Making even less sense is the character of Aaron Thorsen returns to the show in S8E5 after being critically injured in S5E22 — so why not make this the 7.30 Monday lead-in, especially when S8E5 continues another storyline from that ep?  …
