TVNZ Limits HD FIFA Coverage

It won’t be in 3D, as in other territories, but at least some of TVNZ’s FIFA World Cup coverage will be in HD.

Strangely, the broadcaster made no mention of this when announcing it would provide “the most comprehensive multi-platform coverage of an event in its history” for the June 11-July 11 competition.

TV One will broadcast 11 games live in HD, including the opening ceremony and opening match, all of the All Whites games, one second-round game, two quarter-finals, both semifinals, 3rd v 4th play-off and the final.

Highlights of every game will air 5-6pm and repeat  11pm each day of play, except for half-hour compilations on June 12 and 19. But, like the 11 games that will screen live on TVNZ7, the highlights will be SD-only.

There also will be online coverage, including simulcasts, a FIFA World Cup website, a dedicated All Whites microsite, a mobile site for results direct to Internet-capable phones and sport tipping, a Twitter feed and an All Whites Facebook fan page.
