TVNZ New Season: TVNZ Borrows From TV3

Two series spun off TV3 staples will screen on TVNZ’s renamed networks TVNZ 1 and TVNZ 2.

The former will air The Blacklist: Redemption and the latter, 24: Legacy.

Redemption teams the original’s Ryan Eggold, who plays operative Tom Keen, with Famke Janssen, who joined the show in its third season as Susan “Scottie” Hargrave, his biological mother and the chief of Grey Matters, a covert mercenary organisation that solves problems governments don’t dare touch.

It will go to air next year on NBC as will 24: Legacy on Fox.

Told in the same real-time format as 24, Legacy stars Corey Hawkins (Straight Outta Compton) as a former army ranger who’s forced to ask CTU to help save his life and stop what could be one of the largest terrorist attack on US soil.

Concluded The Guardian after viewing the pilot in May: “This will sound a little premature, but my favourite TV show of 2017 is already 24: Legacy.

“There’s no point trying to fight it. It just is.

“Next year may be full of challenging dramas and groundbreaking comedies and insightful documentaries that change how we as people see the world, but I guarantee that I’ll always return to the giddy thrill of watching a knackered-looking hero murdering thousands of baddies for a full day.”

The Hollywood Reporter predicts the series, which also stars Jimmy Smits and Homeland’s Miranda Otto, will succeed or fail depending on how it answers 10 burning questions, including: Can 24 survive without Jack Bauer?
