TVNZ OnDemand to Launch Star Trek: Discovery
TVNZ OnDemand will stream season four of Star Trek: Discovery from April 1.
It was available here on Netflix until Paramount+ clawed it back for its global platform.
Because there isn’t a Paramount+ in NZ, the rights have been licensed to TVNZ through its ViacomCBS deal.
TVNZ OnDemand will premiere the latest, full season alongside S1-3.
If you’re unfamiliar with Discovery, it’s set a decade before Captain Kirk’s original mission and promises “a deeper and darker glimpse into Star Trek lore”.
Sonequa Martin-Green (The Walking Dead), Jason Isaacs (Good Sam), Doug Jones (The Shape of Water), Shazad Latif (Penny Dreadful), and Anthony Rapp (The Good Fight) star.
TVNZ describes the series as “visually stunning” – more so if you can stream it in 4K on P+ rather than quasi-HD on TVNZ’s platform (it also streamed in 4K on Netflix).
Meanwhile, The Vampire Diaries’ Paul Wesley has been cast as the new James T. Kirk in the latest Trekkie spin-off, Strange New Worlds.
He will play the iconic role in S2; S1 will premiere on May 5 in the US (and presumably within 24 hours here).

Too late. I’ve seen most of it .
Has it been confirmed who will show Strange New Worlds, Phil? I’m assuming either TVNZ or Sky.
It will be TVNZ OnDemand, Aaron. The service will bring Discovery fans up to date with all four seasons on April 1 and I would be surprised if it didn’t go day-and-date with Paramount+ for Strange New Worlds’ May 5 launch.
