TVNZ OnDemand Adds Trigger Point

On Monday TVNZ OnDemand will premiere Trigger Point, a new crime thriller starring Line of Duty’s Vicky McClure.

The ITV series, about a reckless and out-of-control ex-military bomb disposal expert, will stream weekly.

It promises to give viewers an insight into counter-terrorism policing and “the officers who risk their lives daily on ‘the long walk’ towards danger”, according to the ITV synopsis.

Reads the blurb:

When a terrorist campaign threatens the safety of Londoners over one fateful summer, Lana Washington can’t help but become suspicious that the bomber is deliberately targeting her unit.

It’s a terrifying thought, but against all odds how can she prove it and discover the bomber’s real identity?

Line of Duty’s Jed Mercurio produced Trigger Point, Adrian Lester (Life), Mark Stanley (Anne Boleyn), Warren Brown (Luther), and Kerry Godliman (After Life) co-star.

A late addition to TVNZ OnDemand’s January slate, it will stream here within 24 hours of its UK broadcast.

However, ITV isn’t immediately putting all the episodes on-demand on its ITV Hub, as often happens after a show’s broadcast premiere.

That’s because Mercurio reckons there’s a big section of the audience who “love the experience of appointment to view TV“.

He told UK TV scribes: “If something becomes a talking point and people have lots of theories about what’s going to happen next and who’s behind some kind of mystery — elements we do have in Trigger Point — then I think it all lands to the shared experience of television viewing.

“It’s almost like we’re turning the clock back to an earlier age of television, and I think there’s still plenty of people who really appreciate that.”

According to one early review, “Trigger Point is careful, even forensic, in how it builds tension, and that’s very much to its credit: its slower, more precisely built scenes are always its most impressive.

“A possible shoot-out with a hostage wearing an explosive vest is engaging but familiar – it’s the delicate, steady incisions made in blue plastic carrier bag to identify the bomb inside that make Trigger Point stand out in a crowded genre.”

I think that will be a good series to watch and is more enjoyable than Line of Duty, expect this to screen on linear TV, which is TVNZ 1, later this year.
