MediaWorks’ shortsightedness has ensured that TVNZ will continue to dominate in the digital era. The network could have levelled the playing field and provided an on-demand service that would have atleast competed or overtook TVNZ OnDemand. I highly doubt MW’s new owners will arrest this situation.
Couldn’t agree more, Leo. It’s astonishing how slow MediaWorks has been to exploit digital possibilities.
With not having Sky anymore I have been using TVNZ OnDemand for LIVE broadcasts and the same for Three’s equivalent. It’s working OK unless I get buffering even with fibre 🙂
Good to hear, Trevor, although disappointing that fibre isn’t making the experience foolproof.
Case in point with Three’s acquisition of Big Brother, which should have been fast-tracked on ThreeNow, fingers crossed Dplay will be its saving grace or, better yet, a user-friendly on-demand platform.
I don’t watch TVNZ and Three much so it’s no biggie. I mostly watch Sky Sport Now and something on Neon, Netflix or Disney+. Speaking of Disney+ I see Hailee Steinfeld has signed up as Kate Bishop for Hawkeye, great casting 🙂
If the rumours of MW TV’s new owners prove correct, TVNZ OnDemand could finally have a real challenger. Global giant Discovery has 300,000+ hours of content which would be immediately available through its excellent Dplay on demand apps/system, if the company did get a foothold down under.
Quite true, Dave, and then there are initiatives like its PGA streaming deal. It’s not only TVNZ that needs to be very afraid …
