TVNZ to Unveil New Season Newcomers

Tomorrow TVNZ will launch its new-season line-up to ad agencies and media in Auckland.

Many of the broadcaster’s new shows for 2013 remain under wraps, but based on its NZ On Air commissions and Hollywood outputs deals, here are the newcomers you can expect to see in HD.

Arrow: Modern take on the DC Comics character Green Arrow.

Mistresses: Drama based on the UK series about four women starring Charmed’s Alyssa Milano.

Malibu County: Comedy about a country music star (Reba McIntyre) who shifts her family from Nashville to Malibu.

The Following: An ex-FBI porfiler hunts a serial killer who uses technology to create a cult of serial killers in a Kevin WIlliamson (Scream) produced thriller starring Kevin Bacon and Camelot’s James Purefoy.

The Family Tools: Comedy about a man who reluctantly takes over his father’s handyman business.

The Neighbours: Comedy about a family that moves next door to aliens.

Red Widow: Thriller about the widow of an assassinated criminal who takes his place in a crime syndicate.

Nashville: A soap that follows the differing fortunes of two country music stars.

Zero Hour: Anthony Edwards plays the editor of a paranormal magazine who’s trapped  in a conspiracy after his wife’s kidnapped.

Longmire: A contemporary crime thriller about a Wyoming sheriff rebuilding his life and career after the death of his wife. Killing Time’s Robert Taylor and Battlestar Galactica’s Katee Sackhoff star.

666 Park Avenue: Terry O’Quinn and Vanessa Williams star in a supernatural thriller about a young couple who manage a spooky apartment building in New York City.

Scandal: Political thriller about a crisis management firm owner.

The Carrie Dairies: Sex and the City prequel starring Race to Witch Mountain’s AnnaSophia Robb as Carrie Bradshaw in high school.

Cult: Show-within-a-show thriller about a blogger and a TV series production assistant investigate fans who may be recreating crimes depicted on screen. Prison Break’s Robert Knepper stars.

Partners: Ex-Superman Brandon Routh stars in a comedy about a bromance that threatens one of the friends’ engagement

Short Poppies: Eight-part Rhys Darby sitcom that the star hopes will be better received than his first post-Flight of the Conchords comedy series, How to be a Gentleman, which was pulled after three episodes.

Making Tracks (working title): Radio New Zealand This Way Up host Simon Morton celebrates the Kiwi character by biking around the country.

The Best Bits: 13-part half-hour comedy from Hounds and 7 Days producer thedownlowconcept.

The Hard Stuff With Nigel Latta: Six one-hour documentaries about big social issues, such as the impact of alcohol on NZ.

Wild About NZ: Writer and adventurer Gus Roxburgh (left) explores our National Parks.

OceaNZ: Six-hour NHNZ series about NZ’s ocean environments.

Pirates of the Airwaves: 90-minute docudrama about the Radio Hauraki pirates.

Field Punishment No 1:  Telemovie about First World War conscientious objectors.

Nancy Wake: A Love Story: Historical docudrama about the NZ-born Second World War heroine.

Topp Country: Lynda and Jools Topp seek out the real people behind real Kiwi cooking.

Operation Overdue: Historical docudrama about the Erebus plane crash of 1979.

Among the returning NZ series in HD will be Go Girls, First Crossings and Auckland Daze.
