Wall-to-Wall Wimbledon Unwrapped
TVNZ is expanding its Wimbledon coverage from TV1 and OnDemand to a pop-up Freeview channel.
ONE Wimbledon Pop-Up (Freeview Channel 15) will provide overflow and repeat coverage of the tournament from Tuesday.
But only TV1’s live overnight cover will be in HD. The Freeview channel and OnDemand streaming will be SD.
“The infrastructure available to us to build the Freeview 15 channel in two weeks is only SD-capable,” a publicist says.
Nonetheless, at least the pop-up channel will afford continued live play from 6am (when TV1’s coverage ends), followed by replays of the day’s matches.
Where to watch:
TV1 Exclusive live coverage:
Midnight to 6am NZT (June 30 – July 11)
1am to 6am NZT (July 12 – 13)
* July 8 – ‘No Play’ day (unless required by tournament)
TVNZ OnDemand:
Live stream midnight until close of play
Daily highlights
Encore performance ‘Game of the Day’
Dedicated event page TVNZ.co.nz/Wimbledon
Channel 15 on Freeview:
6am to midnight/end of match
Continuation of live play from TV1 at 6am
Full replay coverage of the days’ matches

Wimbledon would be better on SKY Sport in fact I find it weird that it’s not on SKY, they have every other Tennis tournament, the major ones anyway 🙂
Interesting that this is back on TVNZ after being on ESPN last year.
This is great news apart from the Pop Up Channel not being in HD. But finally TVNZ is making use of the Freeview platform and fingers crossed this is the first of many Pop up channels on Freeview.
