Weeds to Light Up Thursday Nights

SoHo will premiere the latest — and last — season of Weeds on July 21.

It will take over Girls’ 8.30 Thursday slot and screen here three weeks behind Showtime in the US, which has just released a slew of smokin’ hot posters asking the question to which all fans want the answer after season seven’s shocking finale.

Already several of the show’s alumni have moved on to other projects.

Star Mary-Louise Parker has two movies in the can (Jamesy Boy, RIPD) and a third about to shoot (Les Passages); Justin Kirk (Andy) will play the House of veterinarians in the NBC comedy, Animal Practice; and scriptwriter Stephen Falk is behind another NBC newcomer, Next Caller, about a brash alpha-male DJ and his feminist co-host.

Another risque comedy that originally screened on free-to-air TV, Hung, will make its SoHo debut on July 19 .

And screening on NZ TV for the first time in HD will be Band of Brothers from July 3 — the same night SoHo “premieres” season two of The Wire (albeit in SD) — and on July 20 the true-life telemovie The Laramie Project.

Fans of In Treatment at last will be able to see the first season from July 2 (previously it had been licensed to TVNZ), a pre-Ugly Betty America Ferrera stars in Real Women Have Curves on July 6, and the documentary One Nation Under Dog investigates whether man is dog’s best friend on July 27.

Lined up for box set weekends are seasons three of True Blood (July 7-8), two of Game of Thrones (July 14-15) and The Killing (July 21-22), and one of Magic City (July 28-29).
