Wellington Paranormal Comes Out of the Shadows
Wednesday’s The Big Bang Theory is about to be bumped by things that go bump in the Wellington night.
From July 11, TVNZ 2 will drop its 8.30 season 10 re-runs of TBBT for Wellington Paranormal, a six-part series spun off the movie, What We Do in the Shadows.
Reads the blurb:
Things that go bump in Wellington nights…
Taika Waititi and Jemaine Clement of The New Zealand Documentary Board are excited to present this reality series uncovering a new and mysterious division of the Wellington Police department.
Special Officers Minogue and O’Leary have been assigned a secret taskforce – investigating local cases of a paranormal nature. Under the steady hand of Sergent Ruawai Maaka, these two brave cops will take us where no TV doco has gone before.
Minogue and O’Leary are not new to screen having also appeared in the documentary film What We Do In The Shadows where they investigated similar unusual activity.
Follow Minogue and O’Leary as they use their unique skills to tackle what most cops would be afraid of … From demons to she-wolves, ghosts, vampires and zombie cops. The team has no shortage of phenomena to investigate.
During filming, Clement told Stuff paranormal activity was rampant in Wellington.
“It’s surprising how many demonic possessions there are,” he said, straight-faced.
“There was a very tense situation at the Bucket Fountain – I can tell you it involved a possible Gateway from Hell. We’re very concerned about this kind of stuff.”
In the same article, producer and fellow New Zealand Documentary Board Paul Yates said the series was similar to What We Do In The Shadows, but more documentary style.
“It’s like Police Ten7 meets The X-Files.”

I’m assuming Prime will be screening the new Doctor Who but I just realised Three are tagging their shows as “it’s brilliant”, which is what the new Doctor said about the new regeneration so it made me wonder if Three have got the rights to the new Doctor Who? It would be brilliant if they have 🙂
With Wellington Paranormal now happening, we will be pumping up our TV watching from here. Keep up and on with replacing these stupid repeats of Big Bang, cut out Neighbours, we do need The Mayor instead from 6pm to spice up Shortland Street.
