Will Bake Off Remain on Prime’s Menu?
TVNZ has announced it will make its own version of cooking show hit The Great British Bake Off.
But it’s not yet clear if Prime will continue to screen the original series and spin-off The Great Australian Bake Off.
A question mark remains over whether TVNZ will acquire the rights to both series, as part of its format deal, or if Prime has locked them up beyond the most recent seasons it’s screened.
“That has yet to be determined, so nothing can be confirmed at this stage,” TVNZ publicity manager Lucy Ewen said when asked if the broadcaster had secured the rights to Prime’s Bake Offs.
Prime/Sky’s programming executives are at the MIP TV market in Cannes but I hope to post their response shortly.
TVNZ has yet to announce judges and hosts for The Great Kiwi Bake Off, which its Survivor NZ partner, Warner Bros International Television Production NZ, will produce but it is inviting applications from budding bakers.
Here’s the press release:
Are you a whiz in the kitchen?
The Great Kiwi Bake Off is coming to TVNZ, and we’re looking for competitors across Aotearoa to take part in the ultimate baking battle!
Based on the hit Love Productions format from the UK, this series will bring conflict, drama and bowlfuls of comedy as 12 amateur bakers have their cake-baking, pastry, bread-making and patisserie skills tested to the limit.
Each week they’ll tackle a different baking skill, which will become progressively more difficult as the competition unfolds.
If you’ve got the recipe for success, apply to be on the series here.
Series judges and hosts are yet to be announced.
The Great Kiwi Bake Off will air on TVNZ later this year.
The Great Kiwi Bake Off is being produced by Warner Bros. International Television Production New Zealand. It is based on the Love Productions format and distributed by BBC Studios.
